Advisor with 40-Plus Years of Storage Technology Experience Bolsters Company’s Leadership Team

Holmdel, NJ (May 2, 2017) – Symbolic IO™, the developer of the industry’s first computational-defined storage solution, IRIS™ (Intensified RAM Intelligent Server), today announced that storage industry veteran Stephen Sicola joined the company as an advisor and board member, serving in this capacity since January 2017.  With four decades of experience in developing hardware and software solutions, Sicola has been involved in many industry-first innovations that have transformed the storage industry. He has worked for and advised leading companies such as Seagate Technology, Compaq (now HPE), and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Symbolic IO offers a new computing platform based on patented computational-defined storage algorithms. It’s IRIS product line accelerates all functions related to both the processing and the storing of data to operate seamlessly in the memory channel, ensuring the highest possible performance.

Currently, Sicola is an advisor for multiple companies and has a consulting practice as well. Prior to this, Sicola was technical advisor to the CEO at Seagate Technology, CTO of X-IO Technologies, the VP and GM of Seagate’s Advanced Storage Architecture group, CTO of Compaq StorageWorks, and a Corporate Consulting Engineer at Digital Equipment Corporation.  A technical visionary and architect, Sicola was instrumental in bringing an array of hardware, software and systems to market, including array controllers, backplane controllers, modular arrays, an autonomic storage device, and SANs.

Rob Peglar, Former Micron Executive, Brings More Than 30 Years of Storage Technology Experience to Symbolic IO

Former HP Storage CTO Launches First Computational-Defined Storage Solution

New York – May 24, 2016 - Today, Symbolic IO™ emerged from stealth mode with asuite of products destined to change the way industry defines storage and computing architecture, by bringing to market the first truly computational-defined storage solution. The company’s product, named IRISTM (the Intensified RAM Intelligent Server), will be offered in three variations: IRIS Compute, IRISVault and IRIS Store.  The server solution introduces a new approach to storage and computing by rethinking how binary bits are processed and ultimately changing the way data is utilized.  Symbolic’s solutions ensure that enterprise storage and compute no longer rely on media or hardware, instead “materializing” and “dematerializing” data in real-time and providing greater flexibility, performance and security.

How it Works

Symbolic IO’s proprietary operating system, SymCE™ is dependent solely on the power of the processor, therefore, it is truly media agnostic, enhancing the underlying media’s density and performance, beyond anything previously conceived by traditional manufacturers. The proprietary technology is based on patented algorithms that work seamlessly with the current workflow and instruction sets, allowing for an easy implementation and zero downtime. In addition the solution is the most secure offering today, given the operating system is a conversion engine converting any data into a new sub-state, rendering the information useless to anyone else other than the systems owner, given it’s not stored.
